The Challenge
Spotify is a music, podcast, and video streaming service. We had been given the great opportunity to find a way to add a new feature into Spotify that allows users to collaborate, DJing their select tracks with other users in real time.

Tools and Methods
Before the design phase, my team and I employed many UX practices, including
Empathy Mapping
Competitive Analysis
User Interviews
Affinity Mapping
Creating Personas
Refining Our Problem Statement
After synthesizing our research and describing our personas we defined our problem statement: Music lovers need a way to be actively engaged because they seek the thrill of being part of a community.
Aspects of this feature that needed to be included were:
• DJs should be able to select tracks and take turns playing songs
• DJs should be able to capture and share their DJ sets
• Listeners should be able to join rooms and listen to live DJ sets
• Listeners should be able to provide feedback about the DJ sets
Once we had personas and a problem statement it was time to start designing our new feature that we dubbed the Live Set. User flows were created to show how the Live Set could be seamlessly placed within Spotify’s current progressions.
The Design Phase
Sketches were made for paper prototype testing, and from those tests we found what worked and what didn't. The Live Set screen was a great success–users were able to identify the different elements and their functions right away.
The Featured Live Sets screen required a little more work, as users were initially confused at what they were looking at. Our final iteration included both user info and album artwork, and we removed the search bar.
